What do I do first?
In the green Dialogue box to the right, register on the site so you can contribute news, photos, or comments. Click on Register to Comment and follow the directions. You will receive an email asking you to confirm that you've registered and you'll be ready to go. (Sometimes, the email notification gets stuck in your spam filter. Please check this first, but if you do not receive notification within 30 minutes, please send an e-mail to web@timespapers.com or call (703) 777-1111 between the hours of 8:30 and 5:30, Monday through Friday. In your e-mail, please include the web site you are trying to register for and your user name. That will speed up the process to get you online.)
Once you're registered, you can login to post your own news items, photos, events, or comments on stories.
How do I get around the site?
The easy-to-use navigation bar is located down the left-hand side of every page. Just click on the category of news you want to view.
What are some of the new features?
Reader comments: Anyone who would like to comment on a news story may do so in the comments section at the bottom of the page where the story appears. You must be logged in to comment on a story. Submissions will be approved within 12 hours (usually much sooner) and be posted on the site.
Click on Preview Comment to review the post before you sign off on it.
News By You: Located on the left-hand navigation bar, this is where you can submit your own news. Whether it's a church supper or a 50th anniversary, this is the place to let your neighbors know what's important to you. Submissions will be approved within 12 hours (usually much sooner) and be posted on the site.
Just click on News by You and then on Submit News by You. You can post sports news in the same way on the Sports By You page.
Reviews By You: This is where you can post local entertainment news and share your opinion on concerts, movies, books, or other entertainment options in the county. Submissions will be approved within 12 hours (usually much sooner) and be posted on the site.
Just click on Reviews by You and then on Submit Entertainment News By You.
Photos By You: Post your own photos so everyone can see the biggest fish you ever caught or your new baby's first smile. Submissions will be approved within 12 hours (usually much sooner) and be posted on the site.
Just click on Photos by You and then on Add a Photo By You.
Blogs: These are online journals. Blogs can be sorted by categories such as Sports, Leisure, Entertainment, Business, or Politics. There are also blogs written by the Under-20 set.
Readers can comment on blogs or apply to be a blogger. See Blogs page for details.
Blogs and reader comments on blogs are unedited and post immediately.
Community Links: A list of Web sites for non-profits, community organizations and government agencies. Want to add a site? You can do that too.
Photo Galleries: These are photos taken by staff photographers. Some galleries feature all the photos from the week, others offer a larger perspective on one particular story. Want to buy a copy of a photo? This is the place.
Multimedia: Videos and slideshows. Slideshows tell a story in pictures and sound.
How do I submit press releases and letters to the editor?

How do I apply for jobs and internships?
We have an annual summer intern program designed primarily for high school students. In order to take part in our internships you MUST receive class credit for participation. Please send a resume, cover letter and a selection of published clips or writing samples to the managing editor in the appropriate office. To locate an editor's name, please click here.
