Mommy and daddy are... SICK!

COUGH, sneeze.... Yep, it's that time of the year!

(This blog hasn't been updated in awhile... so I guess I should let you all know I had a beautiful baby girl named Haydin on Aug. 30! She's now 3 1/2 months old!)

After my 40-week-long pregnancy during which I was as healthy as I've ever been (no drinking alcohol or staying up all night and vitamins, vitamins, vitamins!) I think my body has finally given in.

This past weekend I finally got sick. It started off as a slight tummy ache on Thursday, which by Friday had turned into the full-blown Flu, and over the weekend morphed into a VERY sore throat. (No it wasn't strep I got a culture tested.)

Being sick and being a new mom just don't mix very well.

I managed to get out to the grocery store on Thursday evening and picked up tea and some Nyquill. I thought I could get myself through it with the minimal supplies. (Ew Nyquill tastes like nasty green licorice by the way.) And I was wrong!

I got worse! So, I stayed home from work Friday and slowly started to feel like I was dying....

Luckily Jerami (Daddy) was sweet and let me sleep as much as I could over the weekend, but by Sunday he'd done pretty much all he could, and he was starting to catch it as well.

What's worse is poor little Haydin has a tiny cold, but started coughing this weekend. It sounded like she was hacking up a lung. Since she's only 3 months old the pediatrician recommended we take her into urgent care on Sunday evening.

We drove about 20 minutes to Pediatrics @ Night at the Dulles Town Center, and they listened to her lungs and tested her snot. I told the doctor I was really sick, and it was probably something she'd caught from me, but it turns out she just has the normal first cold that little babies get and he said she'd probably be coughing like that for as long as two weeks. There's nothing we could really do.

She seems happy and smily and fine. The Pediatrician also tested my throat and told me I didn't have strep! YAY!

By Monday (when I stayed home from work for the second day in a row) Dad (who stayed home from work too) was the one who was really sick. He lay on the couch wearing a winter hat, sweatshirt and covered in a blanket shivering and complaining he was freezing almost all day. I don't think I saw his face for more than a few minutes at a time.

Back to the grocery store with me! This time I picked up all of his requests: red Jello, gingerale, clear gatorade, vitamin water, soup and medicine. (He was sick of Nyquill already.)

It wasn't a big deal to nurse him back to health. I'm already a mommy I should be good at this! I think caring for him made me feel a little bit better too.

I am feeling a lot better now (Tuesday) and we'll see how the other two are doing when I get home. I just hope the Flu has come and gone in our house this year because I've already had enough of that!!!

Hope everyone got a flu shot (unlike me.) Stay healthy!

x Liz
