"Dada" vs. "Mama"

For anybody who has kids, you probably remember them saying "dada" before "mama."

It's totally normal, and even while I was pregnant I had a ton of people tell me, "watch out she's going to say 'dada' before you know it! Then 'mama' will come second and just won't be as special."

I didn't really think I would care at the time, but now Haydin has been saying "dada" for like a month and a half and she has yet to utter one "mama" sound.

Haydin's first sounds were GUH and then DADADADADA! And of course I didn't mind. She still doesn't know what "dada" means although she says it all the time.

But, now that she is 7 1/2 months old, it's getting to the point where I am getting a little annoyed! In all the baby books it says kids should have mastered the "dada" and "mama" sounds by 8 months of age.

That gives her two weeks to say "mama" before I am going to be really pissed! Haha...

Not really pissed, but I feel so left out! I will sit with her and smile at her and say "Mama Haydin! MAMA!" and she looks right at me and says "dada."

My friend's little girl is about a month younger and has been saying "mama" for a couple weeks now!

What am I going to do!?!?

And it's not like Haydin can't say the "M" sound. She has started this little thing when she eats... she'll take a bite off the spoon and say "mmmmmmmm."

It's because when I was first teaching her to eat solids after every bit I'd say "mmmm" to encourage her, and now she just copies me!

I just can't wait till she masters the "mama" sound, and I am even more excited for when she knows it means ME! :)

I love her so much and of course daddy just loves to rub in the fact that she can already address him by name...

although everyone and everything is "dada" to her right now.  :)
