Friday night movie: 'The Counterfeiters'
The Rappahannock Association for the Arts and Community presents “The Counterfeiters,” winner of this year’s Academy Award for Best Foreign Film on Friday, Oct. 3 at 8 p.m. at The Theatre in Washington, Va.
This is the true story of Salomon Sorowitsch, counterfeiter extraordinaire, bohemian and Russian Jew who was captured by the Nazis in 1944. He agrees to help them in an organized counterfeiting operation set up to finance the war effort. It was the biggest counterfeit-money scam of all time. Over 130 million pounds sterling were printed under conditions that couldn't have been more tragic or spectacular.
Admission is $6 for adults.
The movie runs 98 minutes with English subtitles. It is rated R.
