In a rollicking game in front of a rowdy crowd, the Rappahannock County High School Panther volleyball team defeated the Cougars of Manassas Park 3-0 Tuesday night to improve their record to 10-1 for the season.

The match was quick from the start with rapid volleys and kills. The Panthers play with a good mix of finesse and power keeping Manassas Park on their heels and reacting in what one avid fan – Lynn Kritter mother of No. 6 Danika Kritter – called, "taking them out of their system and forcing them to freeball," or to struggle to send the ball back over the net instead of setting up for a kill.

Quick substitutions and rotation by coach Scott Wilde kept players from getting too tired, but the fast pace of the match took its toll. The first game was easily won by the Panthers 25-16, however in the second game the team lost focus and it was a much more closely played game. The Panthers pulled it together and won the game 25-21 on a blistering Andre Agassi ace in the back corner by No. 11 Laura Caperton.

The Panthers started game three on the down side but soon recovered playing good defense, making good reads, and playing well at the net. The other team was visibly tired and losing steam. The Panthers dominated the third game on a nine point run with No. 6 Danika Kritter serving up five aces. They won 25-9.

Coach Wilde was visibly pleased and couldn't be happier with his team. He said they "play well together, they communicate, they're playing like a team." Halfway through the season, the Panthers are an impressive 10-1 but have two big upcoming matches.

The Panthers face Clarke County tonight at 7:15 at Clarke County High School in Berryville, Va. Next Tuesday they take on defending state champions Strasburg at home in what will be the biggest game of the season. Coach Wilde expects a capacity crowd for the game. The Panthers have not beaten Strasburg in three years.

For the evening, Danika Kritter had an impressive 10 kills, No. 1 Emily Carter seven, No. 8 Megan Wheatley five, No. 10 Hanna Kopjanski three. Laura Caperton served well – including the killer ace to win game two – and No. 5 Nikki Bowers had three blocks at the net, three of which were points.
