Fauquier Hospital Foundation honors supporters
Some 150 guests of the Fauquier Health Foundation enjoyed an extraordinary evening of food, hospitality and music performed by the Young Artists-in-Residence of the Chateauville Foundation on Saturday at the Montpelier estate in Rappahannock County.
The foundation staged the event to express its appreciation for those who have been major supporters of the Fauquier Hospital in 2008. Speaking to the guests before the musical performance, Anne Hall, chairwoman of the hospital foundation’s board, thanked the supporters.
C. Hunton Tiffany, chairman of the board for the hospital, described the hospital’s achievements in 2008 – notably, completing a 33-bed Emergency Department and starting the development of digital mammography within the medical imaging department. John McCarthy, chairman of the Fauquier Hospital Board of Trustees, and also Rappahannock County’s administrator, welcomed the guests, most of whom were from Fauquier, to Rappahannock County. In his remarks McCarthy compared the rapid growth of surrounding counties to Rappahannock’s. He said Rappahannock’s population “… is holding at about 7,200 and we aim to keep it that way.”
McCarthy introduced the musical performers. Thirteen young artists performed solo, in duet, and in quartet. Their songs ranged from selections from Mozart’s operas to old standards such as “Over the Rainbow” and “What a Wonderful World.” Some songs featured comedy; others, romance.
The program was designed by Douglas Beck of Chateauville’s staff. Speaking of Beck and the remarkable variety within the program, one guest said, “He would have made Ed Sullivan proud.”
The event was organized by Woodville’s Karen Darby. Foti’s restaurant of Culpeper catered the event. Rappahannock’s Central Coffee Roasters set up and ran the coffee service.
Volunteers from Wakefield Country Day School’s Key Club in Flint Hill staffed the Montpelier mansion to answer questions for guests touring the home.
