Join one of Rappahannock's 4-H clubs

National 4-H Week, Oct. 5 – 11, marks the beginning of the 4-H program’s 107th year of existence. In Rappahannock County, youth can participate in three 4-H camping programs, a Share the Fun talent show, numerous workshops, and join one or more of the 11 4-H clubs which include:
Amissville 4-H Community (ages 5-19) – Members make crafts and perform community service projects.
Meetings are held the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at Bethel Church.
4-H Basket Making (5th – 12th grade) –Kim Nelson and her mother, Nancy Wheaton, teach 4-H club members to make reed baskets and ornaments. The next club meeting is Nov. 4 at 4:30 p.m.
4-H Cloverbud (ages 5-8) – Cloverbuds make a variety of crafts and foods. Parents take turns leading club meetings and teaching skills. The first meeting is Oct. 29 from 5 – 6 p.m. at the Extension Office.
4-H Cooking and Crafts (ages 5-19) – This club is available to Cloverbuds and 4-H members who learn to make a variety of foods and crafts. The first meeting is at the Extension Office on Oct. 16 from 3:45 p.m.-5 p.m.
4-H Envirothon (9th – 12th graders) – Envirothon is a conservation education program and competition for students in grades 9 through 12. Students learn about Virginia's diverse ecosystem and how they can help conserve and protect it. The first meeting is Oct. 22 from 3:30 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. at the RCHS in Room 120.
4-H Honor (ages 13-19 and 1 year minimum in 4-H or as teen leader at camp) - The focus is for senior members to perform community service projects and participate in fundraising activities to earn money for fun activities and field trips. The first meeting is Oct. 19 from 5 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. at the Extension Office.
4-H Junior Garden Club (ages 9-19) – Club members learn about a variety of plants and enjoy using flowers, leaves, sticks and other plant materials to make crafts. Call the Extension Office for date and location of the first meeting.
4-H Livestock (ages 9-19) – Club members learn how to feed, care for and show livestock at the Culpeper-Madison-Rappahannock Farm Show and visit farms and veterinarians.
The next club meeting is Oct. 20 (the 3rd Monday of each month) at 7:30 p.m. at the Extension Office.
4-H Tally Ho Horse and Pony (ages 9-19) – Club members learn about caring for horses as well as tricks to riding them well. Members do NOT have to own a horse to be in this club. Call the Extension Office for the date and location of the first meeting.
4-H Teen Club (ages 13-19) – This new club will focus on creating programs in the Rappahannock community for teens. The club will perform local community service projects as well as fundraisers to support field trips to places such as Hershey Park. The first meeting is Oct. 19 from 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. at the Extension Office.
4-H Teen Connection (ages 13 – 19) – 4-H members focus on community service projects, learning how to meet career and college goals. The first meeting is Oct. 26. For more information call Debbie Reina or Jenny Kapsa at 675-3619.
