Police Brief
Handgun class
The Rappahannock County Sheriff's Office will offer a course on handgun shooting and safety on Oct. 28 and 29 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. continuing on Saturday, Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The 10-hour course will include range time and requires no experience with a handgun. The course is free and open to Rappahannock County residents.
Those interested may contact Major Scott Jenkins at 675-5300 ext. 303 by Oct. 23 to register for the class. Certificates will be awarded for successful completion and may be used to apply for a concealed weapon permit.
Assault
On Oct. 5, James Hoddo, 45, of Amissville was arrested for brandishing a firearm and assault and battery on a family member, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Home invasion
On Oct. 6, three or four males attempted to force their way into a residence at 4301 Sperryville Pike in Sperryville, according to Sheriff Connie Compton Smith. The suspects did not gain entry and fled on foot. Anyone with information should contact the Sheriff's Office at 675-5300.
Sheriff's note
There have been three reports during the past week of gas being siphoned from automobiles during the night. The Sheriff recommends that gas tank lock caps be installed to prevent theft.
