Special concert to benefit Castleton Festival

Marvin Hamlisch will perform a special solo concert on Oct. 10 to raise funds for the inaugural Castleton Festival in Rappahannock County in 2009.

The performance will take place at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall in Washington, D.C. He will perform some of his most popular songs, as well as other classics.

There will be several special guests including Lorin Maazel as violinist and conductor. Tickets for the performance may be purchased through the Kennedy Center Box Office, (202) 467-4600.

Theatre season

The Chateauville Foundation's current Residency Program's singers and instrumentalists will perform a new opera production of Benjamin Britten's comic masterpiece, "Albert Herring".

"Albert Herring" is a highly imaginative and comic tale that leads up to May Day in 1900. It is about a clerk who works for his domineering mother in her grocery store in a small English town. He is unexpectedly elected as "May King" because there are no suitable "May Queens" to be found.

Maestro Maazel will conduct two performances at the Castleton Theatre House, one of which is opening night on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m., followed by a light buffet reception with the performing artists. There also will be a performance on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m.

A portion of each ticket purchase price is tax-deductible in support of the Castleton Residency Program and the annual festival. If you would like to reserve your place at this exceptional performance, or for more information, please contact The Foundation Office at (540) 937-8969.
