Volunteer drivers needed for van for seniors
Are you looking for a worthwhile way to spend your extra time? Would you like knowing that what you do helps seniors and other persons with special needs attend much-needed healthcare visits? Please consider the following volunteer opportunity:The Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services Board / Area Agency on Aging has been awarded a handicap-accessible van (Care-A-Van) through a Federal Transit Administration grant to assist seniors and persons with special needs. The plan is to have Care-A- Van available in each county a certain time each month.
The van will be in Rappahannock County each month on the 7th through the 12th. This way our seniors will know the dates the van is in Rappahannock and can schedule appointments accordingly.
This service will be available for any type of health care appointment, to include crossing county lines within the five-county area. If no appointments are scheduled on a given day, senior center participants can use the service for trips to the post office, banks, pharmacies, and grocery stores.
We are looking for people age 21 or older with a good driving record and a willingness to help. Training will be provided by our agency’s Transit Department, and radio communication will always be available.
This service is designed to help our citizens maintain something that is priceless to them—their independence.
We are planning training sessions for those interested. For more information, call Lola Walker at 540-825-3100 ext. 3358 or Judy Seale at 540-825-3100 ext. 3013.
