Bob Ryan to lead Christmas parade in 'Little' Washington
Rappahannock resident Bob Ryan, highly acclaimed winner of two Emmys for weathercasting, and past President of the American Meteorological Society, will lead the 4th annual Christmas Parade in “Little” Washington, on Sunday, Dec. 7, according to parade planners with the Washington Hospitality and Visitors Association.
Ryan, who is NBC Channel 4 chief meteorologist, will be Grand Marshal of the parade that will include antique cars, festively costumed llamas, horses and miniature ponies, Waggin’ Hearts dogs, floats (big and small), antique tractors, fire trucks, marching bands and, of course, Santa.
The parade is the highlight of the annual “Christmas in Little Washington” day-long event sponsored by the Washington Hospitality and Visitors Association.
Trinity Episcopal Church has graciously provided space in the Parish Hall for holiday festivities, including a visit with Santa and his elves. Every child will receive a beautiful stuffed animal through the generosity of a donor who wishes to remain anonymous. The Blue Ridge Chorale will lend voice with songs of the season.
Country Places Realty and Denise Chandler, Broker, is sponsoring “Turley the Magician.” Turley has appeared on NBC’s Today Show and has done five command performances at the White House. This year’s entertaining magic show will be one for audiences of all ages.
The news from Christmas committee member Kevin Adams is that the Artisan’s Market featuring craftspeople and local artisans is once again full, assuring those looking to make purchases for the holidays a wonderful selection of locally made gifts.
Committee members Diane MacPherson and Kevin Adams designed beautiful fliers with a map and detailed information about the event as well as magnets to remind everyone of the upcoming event.
Look for the magnets on Halloween night while making trick-or-treat rounds in “Little” Washington. Detailed information is also available at: www.thefirstwashington.com/events.html.
Limited space is available for additional groups looking to march, ride or have a float. Please contact parade director, Denise Chandler, 540-522-0188, to be included.
